Do You Need To Warm Up Your Car Before Driving?

It's not uncommon for vehicle owners to warm up their cars before driving during the cold winter months. Although this is common, most people aren't necessarily sure why they do it or if they actually need to do it.
Rosen Auto Group is here to let you know if warming up your car in the winter is worth it or not.
The short answer is no, however that doesn't mean that there aren't any benefits to letting your car idle for a few moments before driving it. For example, by allowing your car to warm up before driving it the engine is able to lubricate itself better. When the car sits for extended periods of time the oil drains down to the bottom of the oil pan. Once you start the vehicle the oil moves up the oil pump and throughout the motor which lubricates all of the necessary engine components.
Letting the car idle with engine on can help the lubrication process along, however it is not necessarily required because most of today's vehicles can quickly lubricate themselves without the extra help.
There are other benefits to warming up your car that don't have to do with the internal components such as defrosting the windshield to improve visibility. It's also always nice to start the vehicle ahead of time if you have a remote start so that you don't have to get into a freezing cold car.
You should always be mindful of how long you let the car sit idle if you plan to warm it up to avoid wasting fuel.
